For those that have watched any Racing preview shows on You Tube over the past couple of years will be familiar with Andrew Blair White from his own view or alongside Barry Doyle or Josh Stacey.
I caught up with him in the first 5 minutes with feature:
Where are you from?
Foxrock in South Dublin, just a stones throw away from Leopardstown Racecourse.
What got you into racing?
Mostly my Dad. He was a keen a fan of the races when he was my age and used to be a member in Leopardstown. While my sister & I were growing up, he didn't go as much but he brought me there when I was in my teens and I loved it. We both got the bug for it ever since.
First bet?
My Dad works in compliance and I remember he was told by his work friends that he had to back Comply or Die in the National. He did, and all of the family had a few quid on - the rest was history.
Best betting/racing moment?
Betting wise, it was definitely Al Boum Photo in his first Gold Cup. I had backed him at all prices from 33s downwards, and watched in hope on the day. Racing moment wise, it was hard to look past any of the moments that Faugheen / Douvan put up around Leopardstown - it was just different gear altogether.
What made you start putting up selections on You Tube?
I suppose I was in College at the time and we were being told to try and keep doing extra curricular things, so I started a blog to track my selections. It quickly became apparent that there might be a market on Youtube for it, so I jumped on and tried my hand. I don't like watching the videos of those first few back, they were awful! But you have to start somewhere and if anyone is thinking of it, I could only advise you to jump in - it is worth the risk.
Flat or Jumps?
Jumps.
Cheltenham or Punchestown?
Both great meetings but nothing compares to Cheltenham.
Barry Doyle or Josh Stacey? You don't have to answer that!
Both great men. I loved doing the Cheltenham Challenge with Barry on Champ.ie last year and unfortunately couldn't do it again this year due to work. Josh and I have become best friends over the last few years and have been on more nights out together, so perhaps just shading with him.
Will the Midnight Tipper be back next year?
As long as people want to see it, I will keep providing it. As long as somebody is either laughing with me, or laughing at me - it has done its purpose.
Best bit of betting advice you can give?
Don't chase. I know it is something that is said all the time, but we have all been there trying to chase money back at Wolverhampton on a Monday evening. Leave it, and come back to it when you find a race you actually have a fancy in. Other than that, make sure you always enjoy it - having a bet is meant to be fun, so make sure you always feel that.
